Roundabout Ahead Sign
Shape: Equilateral triangle (pointing up) · Colour: Yellow/white with red border
A roundabout traffic management system is ahead.
What It Means
Roundabouts in India require vehicles to give way to traffic already circulating in the roundabout — traffic entering the roundabout must wait for a gap. Once in the roundabout, vehicles travel anti-clockwise. India's roundabouts often lack proper lane markings, making multi-lane roundabouts chaotic. Large roundabouts in cities like New Delhi's Connaught Place or Vijay Chowk manage enormous traffic volumes.
📍 Where You'll See It
Approaching roundabouts on urban and suburban roads, typically 100–200 metres before the roundabout.
✅ What You Must Do
Slow down. Give way to all traffic already in the roundabout. Enter when there is a safe gap. Travel anti-clockwise. Signal left before your exit.
⚠️ Common Mistake
Entering the roundabout without giving way — treating it as a normal intersection. Traffic already in the roundabout always has priority.
⚖️ Legal Note
Failure to give way at roundabout causing collision: Sec. 184 MV Act. Right-of-way rules at roundabouts are defined in the Central Motor Vehicles Rules.
