Frequently Asked Questions

How does the fancy number checker work?
Enter any number (3-digit like 786, 4-digit like 0001/1234, or a full plate string like "MH 02 BY 0001"). The checker classifies it into a fancy category (Super Elite / Premium / Mid / Standard / Regular), shows the typical winning bid range from real Indian auctions, explains cultural or numerological significance, and links to state portals where you can bid.
Are the price ranges accurate?
Price ranges reflect typical winning bids observed across metro RTO e-auctions in 2023–2025. Actual bids depend on: (a) which state and RTO the series is opening in, (b) local demand, and (c) competing bidders at that auction. Treat our ranges as indicative, not guaranteed.
Can I check if a specific number is available right now?
Live availability is not queryable via public API — each RTO opens new series on its own schedule. Use our checker to understand the price range, then visit the state portal (or Parivahan Fancy: vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy) to see which series and RTOs are currently accepting bids.
What counts as a "fancy" number?
A fancy (or VIP / choice) number is one the RTO reserves for auction rather than routine allotment. Typical fancy categories: super-elite (0001), single digits (0002–0009), quad repeaters (1111, 9999), date/year (1947, 2000), mirror/palindrome (1221, 2332), sequential (1234), and culturally significant (108, 786, 420).
How do I bid for a fancy number in India?
Register on vahan.parivahan.gov.in/fancy or your state transport portal, choose your RTO and vehicle class, pay the EMD (earnest money deposit — 10-20% of the reserve price), and submit your bid during the auction window. If you win, pay the balance within 24–48 hours. If you lose, the EMD is refunded.
What is the difference between reserve price and winning bid?
Reserve price is the minimum set by the government (e.g., ₹5 lakh for 0001 in metros). Winning bid is what the highest bidder actually paid — often multiples of the reserve. For 0001, reserves are ₹5 lakh but winning bids routinely cross ₹20 lakh in Mumbai and Delhi.
Can I get a fancy number without bidding?
Not the premium ones. Numbers in fancy categories are auction-only. Regular numbers (non-fancy) are allotted at standard registration fees without bidding. If the number you want is in a "Regular" tier, you can request it via normal RTO allotment.
