Vehicle insurance can be renewed online in minutes through your insurer's website or app, or through insurance aggregators like PolicyBazaar and Acko. Renew before expiry to maintain your No Claim Bonus.

Fees

Premium varies by vehicle type, age, IDV, city, and add-ons. Two-wheeler TP: ₹482–₹2,323/year. Car comprehensive: ₹5,000–₹25,000/year.

Steps

7 steps

Step-by-Step Process

1

Check Your Policy Expiry Date

Find the expiry date on your current policy document, DigiLocker, or your insurer's app.

2

Start Renewal 7–15 Days Before Expiry

Most insurers send renewal reminders via SMS/email. Don't wait for the last day.

3

Visit Your Insurer's Website or Use an Aggregator

Go to your insurer's website (e.g., ICICI Lombard, HDFC Ergo) or use PolicyBazaar/Acko to compare quotes.

4

Enter Vehicle Details

Enter registration number, policy number, or vehicle details. The system auto-fills from the VAHAN database.

5

Choose Plan Type

Select: Third-Party only (cheapest), Comprehensive (recommended), or Comprehensive + add-ons (zero dep, engine protect, RSA).

6

Review IDV and Premium

IDV (Insured Declared Value) is the maximum claim amount. Higher IDV = higher premium. Set it realistically.

7

Pay Online

Pay by card, net banking, or UPI. The new policy is emailed and available on DigiLocker instantly.

Documents / Requirements

  • ·Current policy number or vehicle registration number
  • ·Previous year's policy copy (for NCB verification)
  • ·Payment method (card/UPI)

Tips

  • Renew before expiry to maintain NCB (No Claim Bonus) — up to 50% discount.
  • If policy has lapsed (expired more than 90 days), NCB is lost and you may need vehicle inspection.
  • Compare quotes from 3–4 insurers — premiums vary significantly for the same coverage.
  • Add zero depreciation if your vehicle is less than 5 years old.
  • You can switch insurers at renewal — NCB transfers across companies.
