Step-by-Step Process
Check Your Policy Expiry Date
Find the expiry date on your current policy document, DigiLocker, or your insurer's app.
Start Renewal 7–15 Days Before Expiry
Most insurers send renewal reminders via SMS/email. Don't wait for the last day.
Visit Your Insurer's Website or Use an Aggregator
Go to your insurer's website (e.g., ICICI Lombard, HDFC Ergo) or use PolicyBazaar/Acko to compare quotes.
Enter Vehicle Details
Enter registration number, policy number, or vehicle details. The system auto-fills from the VAHAN database.
Choose Plan Type
Select: Third-Party only (cheapest), Comprehensive (recommended), or Comprehensive + add-ons (zero dep, engine protect, RSA).
Review IDV and Premium
IDV (Insured Declared Value) is the maximum claim amount. Higher IDV = higher premium. Set it realistically.
Pay Online
Pay by card, net banking, or UPI. The new policy is emailed and available on DigiLocker instantly.
