All data is stored on AWS Mumbai region servers.

You Control Your Data

Delete your account and all data at any time.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide our services. The types of information we collect depend on how you interact with SignalPe:

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your mobile phone number for OTP-based authentication. We do not collect your name, email, or any other personal identifiers unless you voluntarily provide them.

Media Uploads: If you use the SignalPe app to upload videos or images, we store the media files along with metadata including GPS coordinates, timestamps, and device information. This data is used solely for the purpose of documenting and reporting traffic violations.

Vehicle Information: When you use the challan check feature, we process vehicle registration numbers to retrieve publicly available challan data from government portals. We do not permanently store vehicle numbers unless associated with an uploaded report.

Usage Data: We automatically collect basic usage analytics — pages visited, features used, session duration — to improve the platform. This data is anonymised and cannot be used to identify individual users.

Risk Score Quiz: Responses to the accident risk score quiz are processed entirely in your browser. No quiz answers are sent to or stored on our servers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

To authenticate your identity via OTP and provide access to your account

To process and store media uploads for traffic violation documentation

To detect vehicle number plates from uploaded images using AI/ML services

To retrieve challan information from government portals on your behalf

To improve, maintain, and secure our platform

To generate anonymised, aggregate statistics for road safety awareness

We do not sell your personal data or use the media, account, or vehicle information you provide to us for advertising or profiling. Advertising shown on our public content pages is served by third parties as described in the "Advertising & Third-Party Cookies" section below.

3. Data Sharing & Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.

Cloud Infrastructure: Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers located in India (Mumbai region). AWS acts as a data processor under our instructions and is bound by strict data protection agreements.

AI Processing: Vehicle plate detection uses AWS Rekognition. Images are processed in real-time and are not retained by AWS after processing is complete.

Government Portals: Challan data is retrieved from the official Parivahan / VAHAN portals operated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). We act as an intermediary — we do not share your data with government bodies unless required by law.

Law Enforcement: We may disclose information if required to do so by a court order, legal process, or lawful request from a government authority. We will notify affected users unless legally prohibited from doing so.

4. Data Storage & Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement industry-standard measures:

All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher

Media files are stored in encrypted AWS S3 buckets with access controls

Authentication tokens are short-lived and securely managed

Database access is restricted to authorised services only

We conduct periodic security reviews of our infrastructure

While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but will notify you promptly in the event of any data breach.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy:

Account data: Retained as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time.

Uploaded media: Retained for as long as the associated report is active or until you request deletion.

Usage analytics: Anonymised analytics are retained indefinitely as they cannot identify individuals.

Challan lookups: Vehicle numbers used for challan checks are not stored after the lookup is complete.

Upon account deletion, all personally identifiable data is permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregate data may be retained.

6. Your Rights

Under applicable Indian data protection laws, you have the following rights:

Right to Access: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.

Right to Correction: You may request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.

Right to Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and all associated data.

Right to Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw consent for data processing at any time by deleting your account.

Right to Grievance Redressal: You may raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (details below).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the email address provided in the Contact section below. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Cookies & Local Storage

Authentication tokens are stored in localStorage to keep you logged in across sessions.

Theme preference is stored in localStorage to remember your display settings.

Our own first-party storage does not track you across other websites.
