RTO Codes in Telangana
Telangana has 37 Regional Transport Offices. All vehicle registration numbers in Telangana begin with TG followed by the district RTO code.
Telangana changed its state code from TS to TG. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways notified the change by gazette on 12 March 2024. New registrations use TG. Vehicles registered earlier keep their TS plates and remain valid — altering an existing plate to read TG is an offence under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

What Are RTO Codes in Telangana?
Every Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Telangana is assigned a unique two-digit code by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). This code forms the second segment of a vehicle's registration number, immediately after the state prefix TG.
For example, a vehicle registered at Adilabad carries the code TG-01 in its number plate. This system helps law enforcement, insurance companies, and traffic authorities instantly identify where a vehicle was originally registered.
Telangana currently has 37 registered RTOs spread across its districts and cities, each serving vehicle owners in that region.
