What the Law Says

Parking violations cover a wide range: parking in a no-parking zone, parking on a footpath or road median, double parking, blocking a fire hydrant, parking at a bus stop, and parking in a way that obstructs traffic flow. In cities like Delhi and Mumbai, automated towing and impoundment is used. Impounded vehicles attract towing charges in addition to the parking fine.

"No person shall keep any motor vehicle... in any public place, in a manner which causes or is likely to cause danger, obstruction or undue inconvenience to other users of the public place." — Sec. 122, MV Act 1988
